Jonathan Bloxham wurde 2023 zum Musikdirektor des Luzerner Theaters ernannt. Nachdem er in der vergangenen Spielzeit mit Neuproduktionen von La Bohème, I Capuleti e I Montecchi und Dido and Aeneas große Erfolge feierte, dirigiert Bloxham 2024/25 Idomeneo, Fledermaus, Luisa Miller und Hänsel und Gretel. Im Jahr 2021 gab Bloxham sein Debüt beim Glyndebourne Festival als Dirigent von Luisa Miller mit dem London Philharmonic Orchestra und dirigierte außerdem die Produktion Don Pasquale der Glyndebourne Touring Opera.
In dieser Saison tritt Bloxham als Chefdirigent der Nordwestdeutschen Philharmonie in die Fußstapfen von Andris Nelsons und Jonothan Heyward und dirigiert Konzerte auf zwei Deutschlandtourneen sowie in der Abonnementsaison in Herford.
Seit 2022 ist Bloxham Resident Conductor und künstlerischer Berater der London Mozart Players. In dieser Saison leitet er deren Konzertreihen in St Martin in the Fields und Fairfield Halls und dirigiert eine Schweiz-Tournee mit vier Konzerten.
Zu den Höhepunkten der vergangenen Spielzeiten zählten Gastauftritte beim London Philharmonic, der NDR Elbphilharmonie, beim Tokyo Symphony, Mozarteumorchester Salzburg, Hallé, BBC Symphony, Belgian National und Residentie Orkest. In dieser Saison kehrt er zum BBC Symphony zurück, dirigiert das BBC Philharmonic und debütiert beim Rumänischen Nationalen Rundfunkorchester.
Im Jahr 2024 veröffentlichte Bloxham eine Aufnahme von Bachs Klavierkonzerten mit der Academy of St Martin in the Fields und Tianqi Du, welche den ersten Platz der Apple Classical Top 100 erreichte. Außerdem hat er Kompositionen von Bruce Broughton mit dem London Symphony Orchestra aufgenommen (2024), und es sind Veröffentlichungen von Aufnahmen mit dem BBC Scottish Symphony (2022) und den London Mozart Players (2023) geplant.
Bloxhams Dirigentenlaufbahn begann 2016 als Assistant Conductor beim City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra unter Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla. Er studierte Cello an der Yehudi Menuhin School und am Royal College of Music und beendete sein Studium mit einem Master-Abschluss an der Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Später studierte er Dirigieren bei Sian Edwards, Michael Seal, Nicolas Pasquet und Paavo Järvi.
Music Director
Jonathan Bloxham was appointed Music Director of the Luzerner Theater in 2023. After achieving great success last season with new productions of La Bohème, I Capuleti e I Montecchi and Dido and Aeneas, in 2024/25 Bloxham conducts Idomeneo, Fledermaus, Luisa Miller and Hansel and Gretel. In 2021, Bloxham made his Glyndebourne Festival debut conducting Luisa Miller with the London Philharmonic, and also conducted Glyndebourne Touring Opera’s production of Don Pasquale.
This season Bloxham begins his tenure as Chief Conductor of the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie following in the footsteps of Andris Nelsons and Jonothan Heyward, conducting concerts on two German tours as well as in their subscription season in Herford.
Resident Conductor and Artistic Advisor of the London Mozart Players since 2022, this season Bloxham leads their concert series at St Martin-in-the-Fields and Fairfield Halls, and conducts a four-concert Swiss tour.
Guest highlights of recent seasons have included London Philharmonic, NDR Elbphilharmonie, Tokyo Symphony, Salzburg Mozarteumorchester, the Hallé, BBC Symphony, Belgian National, and Residentie Orkest. This season he returns to the BBC Symphony, conducts the BBC Philharmonic and debuts with the Romanian National Radio Orchestra.
In 2024 Bloxham released a recording of Bach’s Keyboard Concertos with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields and Tianqi Du, which reached number one on Apple Classical Top 100. He has also recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra (2024), BBC Scottish Symphony (2022) and London Mozart Players (2023).
